State Representative Danny Short was first elected to the House of Representatives to represent the 39th District, which includes the Seaford-Blades area, in 2006. Prior to being elected to the General Assembly, Rep. Short served as Mayor of the City of Seaford for four two-year terms.

In 2009, Rep. Short along with his colleague on the Democratic side of the House, Rep. Bryon Short, formed the first-ever bi-partisan Small Business Caucus in the House of Representatives to address issues related to small businesses in Delaware. The Small Business Caucus has held meetings in each of the three counties to hear the perspective of Delaware's small business owners on the business climate in the state and what can be done to make improvements. As a result of those meetings, the Small Business Caucus crafted a bipartisan legislative agenda for each session.

Both Representatives, Danny and Bryon, were recognized in 2010 with the Legislative Leadership Award by the Small Business Administration(SBA) for their joint effort in helping to serve small businesses in Delaware. In 2012, both Reps. Short were praised as friends of small business by the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) with their annual award for Delaware.

Rep. Danny Short was named in 2010 the First State Community Action Agency's "Legislator of the Year" and was selected as the co-recipient of the "2009 Friend of Seaford Education Award" by the Seaford School Board.

Having worked in the insurance business for over 35 years, Rep. Short is the owner of Short Insurance Associates, Inc., an independent insurance agency in Seaford, which was started in January 2002. He is the recipient of the insurance industry's State of Delaware public service award and was recognized in 2008 by the AFRAM (African American) Festival as their Public Servant of the Year. In 2008, Rep. Short was elected by his colleagues in the House of Representatives Republican Caucus to serve as a member of leadership as the House Minority Whip in the 145th General Assembly.

Rep. Short also served as a City Councilman in Seaford and was the Fire Chief of the Seaford Volunteer Fire Dept, Inc. Rep. Short has been awarded the Heroic Fireman of the Year award by the State Chiefs Association for saving a drowning victim with the help of two fellow fire fighters and has been inducted into the Delaware Fire Fighters Hall of Fame.

Rep. Short's committee assignments for this legislative session are: Joint Sunset Committee (Analysis and Government Accountability), Veterans Affairs, Gaming & Pari-mutuels, Economic Development, Banking Insurance and Commerce, Housing and Community Affairs, Revenue and Finance and he is Co-Chair of the Motorcycle Education Safety Committee.
